CHAPPY WASHINGTON Donald (Chappy Washington) local musician was one of the original people involved in this idea. He has been supporive of the awards since it started.

IN 1992 A SMALL GROUP OF ENTERTAINERS MET TO DISCUSS THE FUTURE.  This group of people were joined by a lady named Delores Hightower.  She had a vision and shared concern regarding recognition  and health concerns for for Philadelphia Entertainers.  Among those people were Pianist Chappy Washington, Singer Rasheeda Brown , Guitar player AAron Williams and Toni WashingtIn.  They met for well over two years and iin 2001 it finally came together .In 2004 Healthy Music Matters was organized by Rhonda Lancaster & Toni Washington Founders of the award which started in 2001.
Healthy Music Matters is the actual sponsor of the award and was established to act as a clearing house for artists/entertainers.

Currently we are writing a book that focuses on the performers who generally work locally and are known on the local Philadelpia circuit. The book will include some history, first hand accounts of many people who have worked with popular and famous Philly entertainers. We hope to touch on many subjects that we felt were important. Racism, employment, unions and a number of subjects that arise when you are striving to become successful. It is our sincere hope to utilize the book to provide a wealth of information which we hope will help to secure the futures of our local musicians by being able to offer some knowledge and alternatives while making an honest living.
